Oscar Bader established Bader Auction Service in 1968 after attending auction school in Iowa and receiving his auctioneer license. He held many auctions through the years including estate auctions, real estate auctions, and consignment auctions at his sale barn in Big Spring. He also donated his time and talent to several charity auctions. Oscar was assisted by his wife, Henrietta, who worked as a clerk, cashier, and secretary for the business. Oscar and Henrietta’s six children also help with all the ins and outs of the auction business. He had many other auctioneers assist with auctions, including Ed Powers who continues to help with auctions today. In 2001, their son, Leo, acquired his auctioneering license and immediately began working as an auctioneer for Bader Auction Service. Eventually, Leo became co-owner of Bader Auction Service with Oscar. After Oscar passed away in 2011, Leo continued the business with the help of the family. In 2014, their son, Donald, received his auctioneering license and joined the business with Leo. They also continue to live up to Oscar’s big heart by donating their time and talent to several charity auctions. Leo and Donald continue to be assisted at auctions by their mom, spouses, siblings, children, nieces, and nephews thus continuing the family business that Oscar started in 1968.
